ActUpNorth is one of the leading drama schools in Leeds and the rest of the north-west, delivering a series of innovative and exciting acting classes for adults from regular weekly tutors who, between them, have extensive industry knowledge and experience, and who are all primed to help you take that next step up the career ladder.

When you join the ActUpNorth family, you’ll be afforded the opportunity to work closely with well-known industry experts and enjoy the chance to build up an extensive network of contacts to help you further your career, including directors, casting directors, producers and agents.

You’ll find that our rigorous actor training curriculum is designed to put you through your paces and test your resolve, fully tailored to suit the intense demands of the industry in the 21st century.

You’ll leave our acting school fully equipped with all the skills you need to progress as an actor, with regular observation and monitoring provided to keep you on track and help you develop.

Those of you keen to focus your efforts on TV acting will find our drama classes of particular benefit, with the course provision emphasising acting for camera skills and working on TV scripts from new or recently broadcast productions.

Naturally, we cover the full remit of techniques and mediums, as well, however, so you’ll leave us with a range of transferable skills and plenty of confidence, both of which will stand you in excellent stead, no matter what avenue you intend to go down professionally.

You can find us in the Leeds Dock area of the city, just three minutes from Leeds Armouries. We have a state-of-the-art TV studio and workshop space at our disposal, helping to take your skills to the next level, with some of our alumni going on to star in well-known shows including Doctor Who, Bridgerton, Line of Duty, Holby City, Happy Valley and many more.

We are a Spotlight accredited training provider, which means that once you successfully complete two full consecutive years of study, you will then be eligible to join Spotlight, helping to connect you with casting professionals across film, TV and theatre.

FEES: Our acting schools are priced at £22 for 2 hours. This figure includes the cost of all additional guest tutor and professional practice classes. A fee of £88 is payable in advance every four weeks, though discounts are available for those wishing to pay for the whole term in advance.

COMMITMENT: The minimum commitment to study with ActUpNorth is one term.

WHEN: If you are accepted onto our programme, you will be invited to attend 1 x 2-hour class each week. Class times vary throughout the week with some running weekdays 5pm-7pm or 7.30pm – 9.30pm.

WHERE: We are based in the ‘Leeds Dock’ area of the city, only a short 3-minute drive from ‘Leeds Armouries’. Our state-of-the-art TV Studio and Workshop space forms part of the new ‘media hub’ taking residence in this area of the city. For the full Leeds address please see the bottom of the page. SUCCESS: Our students in Leeds have had great success locally, nationally, and internationally. Recent Yorkshire based projects have included ‘The Syndicate’ for Kay Mellor/ BBC. ‘Happy Valley’, ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Holby City’, ‘Waterloo Road’, ‘Line of Duty’ and ‘Years and Years’ for the BBC. ‘Stay Close’ and ‘Bridgerton’ for Netflix and ‘DCI Banks’ for ITV. It goes without saying that many of our students have appeared in Yorkshire’s flagship show ‘Emmerdale’.

Students have also featured prominently in TV ad campaigns for global brands and appeared in west-end, national and regional theatre productions at profile venues such as ‘Leeds Playhouse’, ‘The Harrogate Theatre’ and ‘The Sheffield Crucible’.
